Continued: We held an act of remembrance at the Czechoslovak Memorial with the President laying a wreath accompanied by General Beran Czech Defence Attaché and WO Ales Feistinger. The President’s wife placed a memorial cross close by. Rt Hon Dr Andrew Murrison also laid a wreath on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Ruth Moore played the Last Post, and we had a moments silence to remember all those Czechoslovak service personnel buried not just a Brookwood but across the United Kingdom. The highlight for us all was hearing the Czech National anthem played in the twilight, by Ruth Moore on the bugle. We then had the opportunity to show our guests around the headstones in the military and the civilian plots and discuss some of their stories. A wreath was placed at our civilian section in remembrance of their continued fight for freedom after 1948 when many had to leave their home country for a second time. Continues.
